As we approach the holidays, many people are trying to figure out what to gift to others on their shopping list for the season. Whenever someone is brainstorming ideas for gifts anywhere in my vicinity, I always have a suggestion: a book! The gift of reading is truly unmatched. There are so many benefits to reading to your kids, and continuing to read with them even when they are proficient readers themselves. Benefits include increasing knowledge base and vocabulary, decreasing stress and boosting mood, and even improving memory. These are just a few of the amazing benefits reading can bring to your little one’s life (and yours too ;) )! To help inspire your shopping cart, I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite books to gift this holiday season for kiddos, but also adults!!

Infants and Toddlers

That’s Not My Puppy (Usborne Books and More) - a fun texture book with bright colors and simple words. Makes a great gift for any infant or toddler in your life and so many different options for the animal type!

Merry Christmas Ollie by Olivier Dunrae- A personal favorite of our family’s, Ollie’s impatience for Christmas to arrive brings out the inner child in everyone.

Good Night Hugs by Thomas Nelson- This sweet book melts my heart every single time. A sweet little rhyming story that talks about always ending the day with a good night hug.

Pre-K

Kisses, Cuddles and Goodnight (Usborne Books and More)- Reusable stickers?! Yes please! This cute little story will have you melting at your kiddos sweet understanding that everyone needs a kiss and something to cuddle before bedtime.

A Cozy Good Night by Linda Ashman - An adorable story about William and his woodland friends and their attempt to sleep as friends keep appearing at the door.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg- This classic story brings the magic of Christmas to the hearts of all, young and old. Hop on board and discover what makes Christmas so special!

Elementary

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss- Another beloved classic that is a must read and so many fun activity pairings that can go with it!

Beast Feast (Usborne Books and More) - A fun story about a boy and his beast and their adventure with preparing a feast. This story has adorable pull out recipes of some of the concoctions the boy and beast cook up!

Can I Join Your Club? (Usborne Books and More) - An important story about inclusion of people, even when they don’t include you or don’t look the same as you do. One of my favorite recommended read for elementary age kids (and even pre-k too)

Middle School

Mapmaker Chronicles (Usborne Books and More) - An action packed series of fun and adventure. Join Quinn on his race to become the first group to complete a world map and follow the journey that comes along with it.

Harry Potter the Illustrated Series by JK Rowling - This new beautiful release of the Harry Potter books in the illustrated form would be a great book for any kiddo who is into the wizarding world of magic!

Wonder by RJ Palacio - A great story about inclusion, even with people who are different than you. This is a good book for middle school through adults!

High School

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han- This series will give any love-struck teenage girl ALL of the feels. Might as well buy the whole set, because they will fly through this series!

The Adventures of King Arthur- Graphic Novel (Usborne Books and More) – This graphic novel version of the classic story of King Arthur is a great gift for any comic book loving teen

The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner - A great series for anyone who loves to read. Similar to The Hunger Games or Divergent but with its own post-apocalyptic twists, this series is sure to keep your turning the pages

Adults

You are a Badass by Jen Sincero- A great self-help book to help improve your life and stop self-sabotaging. Great read for anyone you love who sometimes doubts their greatness.

Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan- Based on a true story, this World War II tale of the experience of Nazi-raided Italy is a unique perspective on world events that we thought we were familiar with, until we find out so much more in this book. Incredible read.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena- A fast paced thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. Great for any mystery/thriller loving person in your life!

I think Mason Cooley said it best when he said “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are”. What a pertinent quote for today’s world. So as you are checking people off your list, consider adding a book (or ten ;) ) and give them the gift of reading!

Happy Holidays!
