How Important is your team?
The definition of a team is a group of people coming together as a to achieve a common goal. Covid has been real, and I hate even starting the blog out with this as it consumes some many aspects of my life, but it is and one thing I learned is how important the people who stand beside you are. Being part of 4 wildly successful preschools has its challenges but one thing that hasn’t been a challenge is the support of my team.
When you are hiring new staff, you do your due diligence to make sure they check all the boxes and are going to be valuable members of your organization. What I could not image is how my team could rise to the level that they have. It goes well beyond coming in early, staying late or working long days. They have all done their part at making sure that the tiny humans that we care for every day are safe, loved and have a sense of normalcy during these uncertain times. On top of being amazing leaders, moms, wives, significant others and friends at that!
The reason for my post currently is to encourage you to look at your team and take this time to decide if you feel the same way I do. Do you feel that they give their 100% every day because they want too not because they have too? I am highly motivated to always do the right thing, no matter how hard that may be. I am proud to say that my team embodies this daily. Their jobs are tough and yet when I walk in, they are smiling, laughing and taking it all in. Sure, we have all had our moments of “WOW” but when those moments pass they jump right back in the deep end.
I have amazing mentors who have taught me how important it is to take care of your team. They have always allowed me to do what I thought was right and needed to do at that moment. People are of course motivated by money but treating people right, but showing them you care and supporting them goes a long way. Are you willing to step in and do their job for them when you know they need a break? Do you support them not only professionally but personally? Do you take a proactive approach and reach out even when they don’t know they need it?
If you are willing to put the time in to build your team your business will build itself. Of course, I understand that revenue grows the business but you won’t get there if you don’t have the right people behind you.
As you read this if you can’t think of a time your staff went above and beyond or that you honestly love your team then maybe it is time to not only look at whether they are the right people but are you being the right leader? We all want to successfully have businesses, that’s why we own right? I challenge you to take care of your own. Go the extra mile and they will do things for you that amaze you daily!
