Growing up, Christmas time was always my favorite time of year, and yes the presents were a big part of that, but it was also the traditions and activities we always did year after year that had the most impact on me, along with some of my most cherished memories.
With recent events being what they are, staying home for a nice quiet family Christmas is probably what most families are going to be doing this year. I wanted to share with you a few of the things I enjoyed doing during Christmas.
Christmas Lights
As a child this was one of my favorite things to do. We wore our pjs, brought a blanket and a pillow and loaded in the car and drove around looking at all the beautiful Christmas lights. There are a ton of companies that have Christmas light displays for free or some neighborhoods have light contests and some of those houses really do put on a show of lights!
Cutting Down Your Own Tree
You most definitely don’t have to “Christmas Vacation” it. There are a ton of tree farms around Michigan for you to visit and help you find and cut down your perfect Christmas tree. Walking around with my family looking for the perfect tree was always something we all looked forward too.
Making Homemade Ornaments
My mom loved doing this with us and to this day I still have some of the ornaments I made as a child. now I can hang them on my own tree and maybe pass down to my children.
Christmas Movie Night
Pop some popcorn serve up some hot chocolate and curl up on the couch together while watching some of those holiday classics.
Create a New Holiday Cookie Recipe
Or simply bake up a family favorite. My mom, sister, and I still to this day spend one whole day baking Christmas cookies together. This was a favorite for my whole family because who doesn’t like cookies, am I right?
Lastly,
Start a new family tradition
Family traditions are unique to each family! Have fun making your own for your littles to have wonderful memories of.
Talk to you soon!
